Photo Restoration
A few years ago an old and damaged photo like the one shown here, could be restored by a long involved process. In order to protect the integrity of the original the following procedure was generally used:
- Make an copy on negative film
- Make a new print from the negative
- Manually retouch the new print, a process which had severe limitations, and could take many hours.
With digital technology the process is as follows:
- Scan the old photo using a desktop scanner
- Import into a retouching programme
- Retouch digitally
- Output to film recorder, generate negative and make as many prints as you require
or - Print by high quality ink-jet printer using UV resistant inks

This whole process can be taken a step further and colour applied in the retouching stage, as shown in the image on the left.
